K. Praneeth Surya of AP win the championship
K. Praneeth Surya, of Andhra Pradesh a 14
year old boy won the 11th Maheshwaranand Saraswati memorial All India
Open U-2200 rating Chess tournament. He scored 8.5/9 games. Total 172
participants 82 rated players, from 8 states are participating in this 9
rounds swiss, 4 days event. This tournament has a total prize money of
Rs. 60,000/-
In the 9th round Praneeth Surya drew his final round game against
Abhimanyu Puranik from pune, Praneeth proposed a draw to Abhimanyu in a
slightly better position in the middle game, and abhimayu accepted it to
finish clear 2nd with 7.5 points. With this win Praneeth Surya won the
cash Prize of Rs. 15000/- while abimanyu had to settle for 10,000/- rs.
2nd prize. Praneeth Surya & Abhimanyu played consistently well in this
tournament and this only proves that chess is become younger every day.
On 2nd Board Sarang Ponkshe held vetran Girish Wagh to a draw in King,
Knight & 6 pawn endgame. Wagh finished 3rd in the merit list. Third seed
Malleshwar rao quickly drew with Raul Kumar. Rahul Kuamar Finshed 4th
while Malleshwar rao stood 5th . Kapil Lohana finished 6th by defeating
Kaushik Bhave. On 7th Board Atharva Godbole won against Poras Kolgane.
To make a nice comeback with 6.5 points from last 7 games.
Isha Bhave 6 points won the best women prize while Prakash karmarkar won
the Best above 60 prize.
Shri Aniruddha Deshpande president for the function, distributed the
prizes. Vadiraj Jahagirdar former National player and Executive engineer
MSEB was Chief Guest of the function. Soumya Swaminathan was felicitated
for qualifying for National Premier Championship. on dias present was
Shri MD Bhagwat Treasure MCA, Niranjan Godbole Treasurer CMCA and Shri
Prakash Kunte, Mrunalinee Kunte gave Vote of Thanks.
Arbitors for the tournament were Nitin Shenvi IA, Rajendra Shidore FA,
(both Pune) Pravin Thakre (Jalgaon), as informed by the arbiters out of
82 unrated player 52 players made a rating performance.
