KAUSHIK EMERGED CHAMPION IN THE UNDER 14 BOYS’ CATEGORY
Kaushik Bhave, a class VIII student of
Symbiosis School and a trainee of Kunte Chess Academy edged out Nikhil
Ranade of New English School, Raman Baug to win the Under – 14 Boys’
category in the concluded Zilla Parishad Inter School Chess Championship
for Pune District held at Yervada between 13th to 15th September 2010.
Both Kaushik and Nikhil had a clean slate after the end of the
penultimate the 8th round. In the last round Kaushik got a pleasant
surprise from Nikhil, a draw proposal on 10th move, was gladly accepted
knowing that Kaushik had a better Bucholz Score (tie-break) than Nikhil
to ensure the Championship. Both scored 8.5 points out of possible 9 in
their kitty.
The Championship attracted nearly 400 students from about a 100
different school of Pune District this year.
