Pruthu Excels In The Rapid Event
Pruthu Deshpande of our Academy won the Best U – 10 category of the LATE
PROF. WAMANRAO DATTATRAY ALURKAR MEMORIAL OPEN RAPID CHESS
TOURNAMENT organized by Bddhibal Kreeda Trust at Satish Chhatre
Sabhagruh, Karve Road on 12th and 13th February
2011.
Pruthu scored 5.5 points from possible 9,
out of which, he had to concede two rounds on Sunday due to Academic
engagement.

Soumya Qualifies for National Premier Championship
WGM Soumya Swaminathan of Pune Won the
final round against highly rated IM K. Rathnakaran of railways in
National Challengers championship being held at Gurgaon. Soumya scored 9
points/ 13 games and finished 10th in the championship. With this
performance she also made it to the National premier Championship
scheduled to be held at Delhi from December 8.

year, six students of Gram Mangal, participated in the Buddhibal

Devangi completes 3 IWM
norms at Spain
Devangi Patankar, made her 2 IWM norms at
Spain. Devangi made her Second norm at Benasque and the third and final
at Balaguer, both are 9 round norms, she had made her first norm last
year.

In benasque her rating performance was
2278 and in Balaguer it was 2397. She won with 2 FM, 1 IM and 1 GM and
also drew with 2 IM's. Her biggest upset was GM in the last round of
Balaguer Westerinen Heikki of Finalnd. She has also received best women
prize and trophy for her performance.
Devangi is being trained at Kunte’s Chess Academy, under the guidance of
GM Abhijit kunte.
ROSHAN
RANGARAJAN ACHIEVES WORLD RECORD
Roshan Rangarajan of Pune achieved the rare distinction of
scoring 267.9 Elo Points in Chess for the quarter April to June 2009. In
the process, he achieved the distinction of being the Highest point
gainer in the World well ahead of his competitors mostly from the
European Countries.
Roshan Played in International FIDE Rating Tournaments held at Thrissur,
Palghat, Hyderabad, Sangli and Bangalore.
A communication received from FIDE Headquarters mentions that Roshan is
not only the highest gainer of points in this quarter, but the points
scored by him is the Highest for any quarter by any player in the world
since January 2008.
Roshan is presently being trained at the Kunte Chess Academy, Pune. The
support and guidance of experienced seniors like Grand Master Abhijit
Kunte, WGM Swati Ghate, WIM Mrunalini Kunte and International Master
Prathamesh Mokal has been the driving force behind the success story.
Roshan, a ninth standard student of Bishops School, Pune started playing
chess at the age of 10 years. The interest showed by Roshan towards the
game combined with effort and determination saw him winning several
tournaments in a very short period.
Roshan aims at representing India in the major events. He also aims to
achieve the Grand Master Title at the earliest. Roshan, Winner of Pune
District age group championships for the year 2008 (in Under-13
Category) and for the year 2009 (in Under-15 Category) is at present
guided by the Kunte’s Chess Academy.
Roshan Played 52 rated games in the period April to June 2009. Almost
half of the opponents had a rating of over 350 points higher than him.
The good games lost against senior and experienced players like Ram S
Krishan, O.T Anil Kumar, B.T Murali Krishnan, B.S Shivananda, Vikramjit
Singh etc. were eye openers. The drawn games against tough opponents
were encouraging. The wins against Stalwarts K Vijaya Kanth at
Hyderabad, Rakesh Kulkarni at Sangli, R Kaushik at Idukki, P G
Muraleedharan at Palghat were haily satisfactory and rewarding, said
Roshan.
