Nitin Shenvi Acquires International Arbiter Title
Nitin Shenvi, of city Pune has acquired the prestigious title of International Arbiter (IA) in the field of chess arbiters (Referee). He was awarded the title of International Arbiter in the latest FIDE Quarterly Presidential Board Meeting which took place during 24-25 July 2010 at Tromso, Norway.

He is the third person from Pune to acquire this title after Mr. Moreshwar Bhagwat and Mr. Thorat. He also is the seventh IA from Maharashtra and the youngest in these seven IA’s. At this meeting there were also some other Indians who were awarded with various titles. They were Padmini Rout getting the WGM title, Vaibhav Suri and Somak Palit getting the IM title and Soundaramurthy D of Tamilnadu also getting the IA title.

Mr. Nitin Shenvi started his career as a chess arbiter in the year 2006. Initially, he learnt basic pairing from Joseph D’souza. He stood 2nd in first Senior Arbiter examination, held by All India Chess Federation 2007. Last year, he received FIDE Arbiter Title, from FIDE. He acted as arbiter in ten international events to date namely Asian Team Chess Championship at Kolkata 2009, Commonwealth Chess Championship at Nagpur-2008 & Delhi-2010 and seven International Norm Tournaments in various parts of India.

He was very well trained by IA Prof. R Ananthram (Member, SPP Commission, FIDE), IA Mr. K Muralimohan (Ratings Officer of India), IA Mr Dharmendra Kumar and IA Mr. Moreshwar Bhagwat (Treasurer, Maharshtra Chess Association). He said that he also owes this title to Mr. D V Sundar (Hon. Secretary, All India Chess Federation (AICF) & Member, Executive Board, FIDE), Mr. Bharat Singh (Treasurer, AICF and President World Zone 3.2 FIDE), Mr. Ravindra Dongre (Vice President, AICF & Deputy President, Commonwealth Chess Association), and Gm Abhijit Kunte for their continuous backing and support in this field.

Mr. Nitin Shenvi is an employee of the University of Pune working in the Electronic Science Department. His educational qualification is as follows - the degrees of BSc (Physics), BSc Applied (Advanced Electronics), M.Sc.PPPR and M. Phil from Pune University and post graduate diploma PGDCA from Bombay Technical Board. His activities in chess and education is very well supported and encouraged by Prof. Arvind Shaligram, & Prof. Subhash Ghaisas both who have been present and former HoD of the Electronic Science Department, and the director, University Sports Department, of the Pune University.
