SHARDUL INTO THE INDIAN TEAM FOR WORLD YOUTH OLYMPIAD
Shardul Gagre of Maharashtra (Rahuri), a trainee of Kunte Chess Academy, Pune, got selected into the National Under 15 team by securing the 4th place in the National Sub Junior Chess Championship 2010, held at New Delhi from 4th to 12th September 2010.

Shardul scored 8.5 points from 11 games to tie for 3rd to 5th position to finish behind the International Master Sahaj Grover of Delhi (9.5 pts), Girish Kaushik (9 pts) and Antonio Viani D’Cunha of Karnataka. Shardul conceded only one game in the championship to Girish Kaushik in the penultimate round. It is to be mentioned that Shardul, was the 11th seed.

This performance has provided Shardul not only a berth for the Youth Olympiad but he will also get a chance for the exposure trip to Indian sub junior team, provided by the Government of India, every year.

There were total 170 players in open section and 100 in girls section.
