Soumya Qualifies for National Premier Championship
WGM Soumya Swaminathan of Pune Won the
final round against highly rated IM K. Rathnakaran of railways in
National Challengers championship being held at Gurgaon. Soumya scored 9
points/ 13 games and finished 10th in the championship. With this
performance she also made it to the National premier Championship
scheduled to be held at Delhi from December 8.
After winning the world Junior last year, Soumya made her final
International norm in Greece recently. Soumya has become 2nd women
Player from Pune and Maharashtra to qualify for National premier after
WGM Swati Ghate. Another girl Padmini Raut from Orissa qualified by
finishing 27th in the list.
Soumya is under scholarship with Indian Oil Corporation ltd. Her
training for the last six months prior to this event was sponsored by
Mrs. Parimal Chaudhari & Mr. Pramod Chaudhari.
Soumya is training in Kunte’s Chess Academy for past 3 years. Recently
she was selected for talent Search Program by Sports Authority of India
for her performance of Gold medal at World Junior Championship last
year.
With this performance soumya will be gaining 15 Elo rating points.
IM Prathamesh Mokal from Pune also qualified to the National premier
championship he is currently a coach in Kunte Chess Academy. Prathamesh
scored 8.5 points out of 13 games and finished 19th in ranking. Top 30
players qualify for the National Premier from National Challengers.
IM MR Venkatesh from PSPB won the event on tie break with 10 Points.
Thejkumar RSSPB and Shyam Sundar of TN finished 2nd & 3rd respectively
with 10 points
Surprisingly, the prominent players like third seed IM Swapnil Dhopade,
IM Himanshu Sharma, IM K Rathnakaran, IM Praveen Kumar C were failed to
qualify for the event.
