In the beginning, chief guest Mr
Shastri and Mr Sathe were given a warm welcome with a bouquet by Mr.
Prakash Kunte and Mr. R M Akolkar (Trustee of BKT). Thereafter, GM
Abhijeet Kunte gave a brief introduction of Mr. Shastri and Mr. Sathe.
For today’s programme, there were three awardees selected for the
sponsorship - IM Prathamesh Mokal (Rs.21000) for Malaysian International
open chess Tournament, Chinmay Kulkarni and Abhishek Kelkar (Rs.16000/-
each) for Dubai International open chess tournament.
The idea behind this sponsorship
program was explained in detail by Mr. Prakash Kunte, Managing Trustee
of Buddhibal Kreeda Trust (BKT). Under the sponsorship programme,
awardees are given a total of Rs.50,000 for playing foreign tournaments
and a sum of Rs.50,000 for playing domestic tournaments. Selection is
based on talent for the young and budding chess players.
Mr. Shastri spoke about the rapid
progress of chess in Pune and also congratulated the awardees of this
sponsorship. He explained about the various financial help provided by
the Airport Authority of India to the deserving sportspersons. Mr. Sathe
also showed his keen interest in organising a sponsorship programme on
similar lines for chess players and declared Rs. 50000/- sponsorship for
capable chess players. Mr. Moreshwar Bhagwat congratulated the awardees
and appreciated the spirit & efforts behind the programme. He predicted
that this would increase the competition and gradually bring about a
revolution in Pune, to put the city on the global map of CHESS.
The programme was also attended by Mr.
Niranjan Godbole, Treasurer of the Central Maharashtra Chess Association
(CMCA), FA Mr. Nitin Shenvi, Dr. Karawade and Mr. Anil Raje, Manager,
Bank of Maharashtra, Pune and parent’s of the awardees. |
