Vallabh Kavi, 5 year old prodigy won Gold medal at Asian school Chess championship (u-5)
Vallabh Kavi, 5 year old prodigy of Kunte’s chess academy won Gold medal at Asian school Chess championship (u-5), concluded at Delhi. Vallabh scored 7 points from possible 9 games. It was a three way tie, 3 players scoring 7/9. Along with Vallabh, Suresh Pai of India, and Solomko Artur of Kyrgizsthan scored 7 points, who were placed second and third respectively. Vallabh defeated leader Suyash Pai of India(Goa) to finish first. There were total 32 participants in Under-5 Boys section.



Vallabh is being trained at Kuntes chess Academy for past more than 2 years. Vallabh is studying at Indira Kids school, Aundh in senior KG.

Pruthu Deshapnde was closed to win medal when he suffered a defeat in the penultimate round. Pruthu in the clear winning position rejected draw offers by opponent. But hard luck for punite, who messed up in next couple of moves. Pruthu finished creditable 10th in under 11 section. His major victories were against 5th seed Kumar Gaurav and Talat-Al-Hamadi, UAE.


Ridit Nimdia, a student of Kunte Chess Academy started well in the tournament with a win. However, he lost second round due to walk over as he missed to reach venue by a couple of minutes. The boy has fought back from the set back and got six points in nine rounds to reach at 10th position. In his last game he defeated a much higher rated player and the second seed Raja Rithvik R of India with a rating of 1566. Ridit also holds the title of being Youngest Rated player in the world and also the youngest player to defeat a Fide rated player. Ridit has won the World School bronze medal at turkey in 2010. Ridit is currently Maharashtra U-7 state Champion.

Yashoda Maladkar finished 10th in under-15 girls section. She improved her ELO by 18+, with creditable draw against Sathya Pramodhi of srilanka, Vaishnavi Akhade and victory over Simranjeet Kaur.



 

Indians had clean sweep winning 32 medals - won 11 Gold, 12 Silver and 10 Bronze out of the 36 at stake in the Asian School Chess Championship at Indira Gandhi Stadium New Delhi. Shri. Desh Deepak Verma IAS, Director General Sports Authority of India and Shri. Hisham Al-Taher, General Secretary Asian Chess Federation give away the prizes in presence of Shri. Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary All India Chess Federation, Shri. Luxman Wijesuriya, Vice President Chess Federation of Sri Lanka and Shri. Husan H Turdialiev, Co-Chairman of Chess Federation of Uzbekistan.
